This book has been thoughtfully designed with autistic children in mind, particularly those who face challenges with attention and concentration. As a piano teacher with fifteen years of experience and the mother of an autistic child, I bring both professional and personal insights into supporting autistic learners. I understand that maintaining focus on a task can be difficult for many autistic children, and that’s why I structured the book in a specific way. Each page has a clear and consistent layout, with short exercises—only eight measures long—that are simple to play and include only essential instructions, without any extra text that could be distracting.
The short length of each exercise is intentional. Through my years of experience working with autistic students, I’ve observed that longer pieces often make it difficult for them to sustain attention, which can lead to frustration and discouragement. Some children may even abandon a piece halfway or feel compelled to start over after a mistake, rather than continuing. While each autistic child is unique, with individual strengths and challenges, shorter exercises can reduce the likelihood of these setbacks and encourage a sense of accomplishment.
I also believe this book will work well for very young children, ages four to six, who may similarly find it difficult to focus for extended periods. The short exercises, clean and consistent layout, and engaging illustrations aim to make piano learning approachable and enjoyable for even the youngest beginners.
